OCULAR DRUG DELIVERY USING IONTOPHORESIS

After cataract surgery, it is necessary to apply eye drop that contains antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. However, ocular drugs in liquid form is reported to be cleared out rapidly even before the drug is delivered to the target (< 5% of the total administered drug). Usually the eye drop is applied for more than 3~5 times a day, causing patients often to forget, which results in reduced effectiveness. In addition, in order to reach effective therapeutic levels, the dosage of each application is set to be more than necessary, and thus causing side effects. For this, our lab is developing nanocarrier and medical devices as the patient-friendly therapeutic product.
